Delhi: Gangrape victim was earlier forced into prostitution
In yet another case of violence against women in the capital, a 19-year-old Nepalese woman was gangraped by six men in south Delhi’s Mehrauli area on Monday. A medical examination of the victim has confirmed rape and she is being treated at the All India Institute for Medical Sciences. In her complaint to the police, the victim claimed that she was forced into prostitution by a couple that brought her to Delhi under the pretext of better job opportunities. She was sent to a client’s house on Sunday, where she was gangraped after being forced to consume alcohol.

Maharashtra: Rape-accused cop suspended by the state government
The Maharashtra government on Tuesday suspended deputy inspector-general of police Sunil Paraskar from active service for misconduct after he was accused of rape by a city-based model. Paraskar has been suspended for six months and simultaneously a departmental inquiry has been initiated. On July 26, a city-based model filed a case against the officer accusing him of molesting and raping her from November 2013 to March 2014.

Jammu and Kashmir: State government to provide amnesty for stone-pelting youth
Rural development and panchayati raj minister Ali Mohammad Sagar said on Tuesday that the government would announce amnesty measures for young people lodged in jails for pelting stones at the Indian armed forces in the Kashmir Valley. “The government has decided to withdraw the FIRs registered against them,” he also said.

Punjab: Trouble brewing in Akali Dal-BJP alliance
Punjab chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal chief Prakash Singh Badal slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday for poaching its senior leader PS Gill. The former SAD leader was inducted into the BJP by party president Amit Shah at a rally in Jammu. “This is a very inappropriate move by the BJP. Neither Shiromani Akali Dal nor the BJP should do anything like this. After all, we are partners,” Badal said.

Uttar Pradesh: Muzaffarnagar riot accused given ‘Z’ category security status
The home ministry upgraded on Tuesday Bharatiya Janata Party legislator and Muzaffarnagar riot-accused Sangeet Som’s security cover from Y to Z category.  Earlier, Som was protected by 11 guards, but now 22 security guards and bulletproof vehicles will escort him. This move has been severely criticised by members of the opposition. "It is a travesty that victims of the riots are suffering but those who are responsible for the riots are being provided Z security", said Congress leader Manish Tewari.
